How to take Androcur
Androcur-50 tablets are taken orally after a meal with a small amount of liquid. We will give you more information about taking androcur in this article.
Usage of Androcur-50 in men
When treating patients with unhealthy libido (sexual deviations), the doctor selects the dosage of Androcur-50 in each individual case individually. Usually at the beginning of the course the drug is taken on 1 tablet 2 times a day. If necessary, the dose may be increased to 2 tablets twice a day, and temporarily – up to 3 times a day. When the therapeutic effect is achieved, the dose is reduced to the minimum maintenance dose. In most cases, 0.5 tablets two times a day is enough. At the same time the dose reduction should be gradual, over several weeks, with a change in dosage by one or better by half a tablet per week. To stabilize the therapeutic effect Androcur-50 is usually taken for a long time, for several months if possible with simultaneous psychotherapy.
Regardless of whether improvement or remission of the disease is observed, it is necessary to continue taking the drug in the prescribed dose. In order to reduce the increased production of male sex hormones at the beginning of treatment with LH-RH agonists:
- At first only 2 tablets 2 times a day (200 mg) for 5-7 days, then in the next 3-4 weeks;
- In the same dose in combination with LH-RH agonist.
Application of Androcur-50 in women
At the women who have reached puberty, with the androgenization phenomena expressed Androkurom-50 treatment begins from the 1st day of a menstrual cycle (the 1st day of a cycle = the 1st day of a menstruation). Only in patients with amenorrhea the treatment may be started immediately after the doctor’s prescription. In these cases, the 1st day of taking Androcur-50 is equated to the 1st day of the menstrual cycle. The usual scheme of Androcur-50 application in women with androgenization phenomena includes daily administration of the preparation from the 1st to the 10th day of a cycle once a day by 2 tablets.
If you delay taking it for more than 12 hours, the contraceptive effect for this cycle is not guaranteed. And in this case to avoid premature bleeding in this cycle the Androcur-50 and/or Diane-35 should be continued as prescribed, skipping the forgotten tablets and/or drops. At the same time, additional non-hormonal contraceptive measures should be taken until the end of the cycle (except for the calendar Knaus-Ogino method and the temperature method). After 21 days from the beginning of therapy, a break is taken for 7 days, during which menstrual-like bleeding occurs. Exactly 4 weeks after the start of treatment, the next course of combination therapy is started, regardless of whether the bleeding has stopped or still continues.
If there is no bleeding during the 7-day break, it is necessary to consult the attending physician. After achieving clinical improvement, the dose of the drug may be reduced to 0.5-1 tablets per day. In some cases, taking Diane-35 alone is sufficient to maintain the effect.
